The achievements of Maureen FitzSimons as a child performer in America (which we call Maureen O'Hara today) would have definitely put her into the child-prodigy category. It was an innate quality for a woman who was of Irish origin, and that was surrounded during the beginning by gifted relatives and parents. Maureen joined this wonderful haven in Ranelagh, Ireland on August 17th, 1920. Marguerita Lu. FitzSimons made a name for herself with her contralto. Charles FitzSimons was a successful businessman in Dublin who also owned a part of the Irish Shamrock Rovers soccer team. Maureen was the second of six FitzSimons children - Peggy, Florrie, Charles B. Fitzsimons, Margot Fitzsimons and James O'Hara completed this beautiful family. Maureen enjoyed rough sports as an infant and was extremely good in them. Her talent for performing was the perfect match for her passion for sports. Her winning of almost every Feis prizes for her own country's drama and theatre performances proved this. At age 14she was admitted into the Abbey Theater, where her goal was to study operatic singing as well as classical theater.
